Sheriff Jimmy Simmons started his career in law enforcement in 1984. He was elected to the position of Sheriff in 1992 and is currently serving his fourth term. Since being elected, Sheriff Simmons has made many positive changes to the department. Among the most beneficial changes made is the increased number of officers in the department and establishing the county work program.

Increasing the number of officers on patrol assists in deterring crime. By this I mean we can be either REACTIVE OR PROACTIVE. Reactive would be like having one person that answered calls. Proactive would be like having officers that were out patrolling and being seen. If a citizen sees a patrol car in the area it will make them feel more secure. On the other hand, if a would-be criminal saw a patrol car it may prevent them from committing a crime.

Felony investigations are divided into two categories, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION AND NARCOTIC INVESTIGATION. Chickasaw County currently employees two criminal investigators that work non-drug related cases. The county also staffs two narcotic officers that work drug related cases.

With the increased number of officer the citizens of Chickasaw County are better served.

As the Sheriff I am pleased with my employees and feel they do a very good job enforcing the law.
